Personalized Fitting Services

Who needs a bicycle fitting?
Everyone who rides a bike should get a bike fit! Whether you are a recreational rider or a serious racer, your bicycle must fit. Just like your cycling shoes and shorts, your bike must fit properly in order for you to be comfortable, perform well and prevent injuries. Set up properly, every cyclist will have a more enjoyable experience! Cycling involves a unique interaction of rider and equipment and the bike should feel like an extension of the body. Because cycling is a learned skill, an individual may not choose the best position or technique; just like they might not naturally grip and swing a golf club properly. Every cyclist deserves to be comfortable on their bike - and a bike fit can help make that happen.

What is the perfect fit?
The perfect fit allows you to be comfortable without a compromise in your power. It facilitates efficiency of movement and the ability to generate power and speed. It allows you to easily breathe and deliver oxygen to your muscles. On the correct bicycle and in the proper position you are stable, can easily maneuver and efficiently balance. The bicycle becomes an extension of your body.

Size Cycle

How is the perfect fit achieved?
Many fitting systems use static body measurements, and general questions, such as; age, weight, skill level, etc... These measurements are then put into formulas or computer software to come up with an “ideal fit” without ever seen you on a bike.

At Sammamish Valley Cycle, we use a method of fitting that treats every cyclist as a unique individual. You will bring your own “personal blueprint” to the bike determined by your unique history: lifestyle, goals, fitness level, body type, flexibility, range of motion, riding experience, past injuries, surgeries and current physical concerns. A certified bike fit professional will work with you to achieve a position that allows you to meet your goals, while taking into consideration your abilities and limitations.

The Sammamish Valley Cycle fitting process begins with an extensive interview and then progresses to measurements, a physical assessment and dynamic, on-bike positioning using our fully adjustable Size Cycle. The Size Cycle positioning begins with the feet and travels up the body to the hands. We apply principles of physiology and biomechanics to your unique blueprint to tailor a position just for you.

Motion Analysis
With the use of motion analysis we are able to capture what the eye cannot. Having the ability to freeze your position in real time allows your fit specialist to see exactly how your body is reacting to changes in your position. This will allow us to help you achieve your optimal position on a bicycle.

SpinScan

RacerMates Computrainer will be used to analyze your pedal stroke during your fit session. This helps your fit specialist insure that you are positioned in such a way that you can achieve an optimal amount of power output, without risk of injury. Also, you and your fit specialist will be able to view how uniform your pedal stroke is. This will help you to know where in your pedal stroke you are strongest, and where you could use improvement.

The perfect bike for the perfect fit
Many cyclists who have a bicycle fit realize that a bike that is custom designed for them is the best option. Serotta, Parlee, Marinoni, and Litespeed are some of the custom companies we work with to build your perfect bicycle. They make handmade bicycle frames using the very best titanium, steel, and carbon fiber. Each frame is custom fit and custom made to your specifications. Innovation in design and construction is unmatched by these companies.

If a custom bicycle is too long of a wait, we have a large selection of stock bicycles from; Serotta, Parlee, Marinoni, Litespeed, Scott, Cervelo, Colnago, DeRosa, Salsa, and Bianchi.

One Last Thought
As professionally trained bicycle fit technicians we do not want to be confused with medical professionals. Although we have a vast amount of knowledge of how the body works while on a bicycle, we may not have all the answers when it comes to medical questions. If at any time we feel as if you have a question that we do not have the answer, we will help refer you to the person that does. We have excellent relationships with many different types of specialists that will be able to address problems that we are not qualified to diagnose.

With that said, be cautious of people claiming to be professional bicycle fitters that have had no formal bicycle fitting education or training. While they will most likely be extremely good at their profession, they may not have the answers you need when it comes to your bicycle fit. Also be exceptionally careful of any fitting services that claim they can fit you via the internet or over the phone, as there is no way to properly fit a bicycle to someone without seeing them.
